Prophets Birthday

Mawlid, also known as Eid-e-Milad an-Nabi, is an observance of the day when the Islamic prophet Muhammad was born. It is commemorated in Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.

The Green March

The Green March celebrates the mass demonstration in November 1975, coordinated by the Moroccan government and military, to force Spain to hand over to Morocco the disputed autonomous semi-metropolitan province of Spanish Sahara.

Independence Day

This day celebrates when Morocco finally gained independence from the French in 1956. Clearly, this is an incredibly significant day for this extremely proud nation and so must be celebrated in the proper fashion.

Independence Manifesto

This important event marks the day when Moroccan Nationalists demanded independence from the French in 1944 and so lay foundations for their eventual emancipation.

Amazigh New Year

Yennayer is the first month of the Berber calendar. The first day of Yennayer corresponds to the first day of January in the Julian Calendar, which is shifted thirteen days compared to the Gregorian calendar, thus falling on 12 January every year.

Eid-al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr is the earlier of the two official holidays celebrated within Islam. Eid al-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.

Labour Day

Labour Day is an annual day of celebration of the achievements of workers. It has its origins in the trade union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement. This advocates eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, eight hours for rest and is universally celebrated around the world.

Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha, commonly translated as the Feast of Sacrifice and also known as Yawm an-Nahr, is the second of the two main Islamic holidays alongside Eid al-Fitr.

Feast of the Throne

This day marks the formal accession to the throne by the King.

Meet the teacher

This is your chance to meet personally with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress. These are hosted on a termly basis and enable you to keep an active eye on how they are progressing.

Coffee Mornings

These are events which are open to all parents / guardians to attend. It is an open forum where people have the ability to discuss everyday issues which affect the school and or their child.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in The United Kingdom since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. The day is also marked by war remembrances in many other non-Commonwealth countries.

Halloween

Halloween or Hallowe’en is a celebration observed in many countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day. Traditionally students wear fancy dress and participate in themed activities. This is one of the school’s most beloved calendar events.

University Fairs

University fairs take place in the school’s Sports Hall. Universities are provided with a booth and a representative will be able to answer your questions directly. *These events are open to both students and parents from all year groups.

Winter Fair

A staple for all UK Independent Schools. It sets the scene for the start of the festive period and allows parents, students, and staff to enjoy the delights of our extremely successful Winter Market (e.g., Food / Craft / Gift stalls) held in the school’s Sports Hall. *This event relies strongly on the commitment from our Parent Representatives.

Primary Show

This celebration is undertaken by the Primary School at the end of Term 1. Winter themes, carols, good tidings to everyone…what is there not to enjoy in this wonderful annual extravaganza.

Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year is the beginning of a new year based on lunar calendars or, informally but more widely, lunisolar calendars. Traditionally this is celebrated at BISC with fancy dress for the Primary School and a themed lunch for everyone.

World Book Day

World Book Day is a charity event held annually in the United Kingdom first Thursday in March. It promotes the importance and enjoyment of recreational reading and allows students to arrive in school dressed as their favourite character from a book.

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually in March as a focal point for the women’s rights movement.

Holi Festival

Holi is a popular and significant Hindu festival celebrated as the Festival of Colours, Love, and Spring. This event is celebrated by Secondary students via assemblies and other associated activities.

Humanities Day

This event is hosted by the Secondary School for all Year 7 – 9 students, giving them the chance to plan / prepare for a variety of differing disasters scenarios.

Enterprise Day

This event takes place in both the Primary and Secondary School. This allows students the opportunity to stretch their entrepreneurial abilities in a wide range of differing, structured activities.

Mental Health Week

This week is designed to empower and give all students a voice in maintaining their own mental health and wellbeing.

Transition Meetings

These events are hosted by the school and allow parents the opportunity to understand the key changes in the educational provision between the Key Stages.

Trips Week

At the end of Term 3, both Primary and Secondary School students will undertake a comprehensive co-curricular programme designed to broaden our students’ life-experiences. This can include both sporting and academic trips to a wide variety of destinations in Casablanca / Morocco.
